For our first ever Artist of the Month I have chosen Dexter Freebish and it's only fitting that they would be our first because they have THE GREATEST SONG entitled none other than "Twilight"! The first time I heard this song I was instantly in love and then I had to listen over and over and over because it fit the story in the Twilight series better than any song I had ever heard! It was actually kind of freaky! And believe me, my "Twilight" list on iTunes is loooooooong, but it surely wouldn't be complete without this song. It's the KING DADDY of the Twilight songs, it's the title track, el numero uno on the list! :D

Check out these lyrics!
Twilight
She's got eyes like deep blue skies
Reminds me of the times I've gone inside her mind
When I crossed the line and I tripped into divine
When she looks at you she'll take you to
That hidden place that you once knew
Inside of you, inside of you, inside of you
When the stars align
And the east meets the west
When the new moon rises
And we're put to the test
When we come to the crossroads and you know we'll find a way
Yeah, a new day will begin
We could drift away through the atmosphere
Gonna close our eyes and disappear
Lose ourselves like a rocket man
Take a trip to Neverland
This time, we'll get it right
We'll be together when the sun goes down at twilight
At twilight
Twilight
She's my private paradise
When I'm with her I'm paralyzed
I cannot speak, I cannot see
She's my eternity
She's not afraid to be alone
The universe she calls her home
She wants to fly
She wants to roam
She floats into my soul
When the stars align
And the east meets the west
When the new moon rises
And we're put to the test
When we come to the crossroads and you know we'll find a way
Yeah, a new day will begin
We could drift away through the atmosphere
Gonna close our eyes and disappear
Lose ourselves like a rocket man
Take a trip to Neverland
This time, we'll get it right
I know we'll be together when the sun goes down at twilight
At twilight
Twilight
Are you freaking out yet?

Chris
I recently spoke to Chris of Dexter Freebish. He is their bassist and was kind enough to answer some of my questions and read my rant about how "Twilight" relates so closely to the books. He promised me (with a "LOL") that they didn't know anything about the books back when they wrote the song nor has he read them for himself, but he was interested to know how their song compared to the story of Edward and Bella. Here was my reply:
The main characters are Edward and Bella. Edward is a 17-year-old vampire (who's actually over 100 years old) and Bella is a 17-year-old mortal. In the first book, Twilight - Edward tells Bella that "twilight" is the time of day that is the safest time for them to be together. Not only are we introduced to their love story in the first book , but that love story is "tested" in the sequels New Moon (where the "new moon rising" would be Jacob, a werewolf, enemy of the vampires and a new love interest for Bella and also how Bella copes with loosing Edward) and the third book, Eclipse, which is definitely their "crossroad" with Edward asking her to marry him and she having to choose between he and Jacob. The fourth book (coming out this August) is entilted Breaking Dawn where we hope a "new day will begin" for Bella and Edward, with Bella turning into a vampire to be together forever with Edward married and happy. And that's just the begining of the similarities.... Both verses relate almost perfectly with Edward's thoughts and feelings towards Bella. He has the power to read people's minds, but ironically can't read Bella's for some reason. However, she definitely takes Edward to that hidden place that he once knew inside of him - that human place, his soul. The second verse describes Bella to me. She's very spunky, speaks her mind and isn't afraid to risk her life for others. She's independant and an old soul. (Then I showed him the trailer and clip from the movie : ) As you can see in a brief clip from the trailer, these vampires sore and drift through the atmosphere and in the books, they run as fast as rockets. The stories take place in Forks, Washington and mostly deep in the rain forests there.. I like to think of Forks and the rainforests there as my"Neverland" where vampires roam and never get old. A bunch of the TwilightMOMS are going totake a trip to Neverland...er...Forks this September.
He was definitely wowed! And he wants their song to get on the soundtrack! I don't blame him - I want it on the soundtrack too! :D
Here are a few questions I asked him -
ET: Can you give us a brief history of your band?
Chris: We were all friends growing up. Started the band in mid - nineties. We wrote a song in 1999 called "Leaving Town". It won 1st place out of 27,000 songs in the John Lennon songwriting contest. After that, we signed a record deal with Capitol Records. We toured the world and received a lot of airplay with "Leaving Town". We parted ways with Capitol and then released our second CD called "Tripped Into Divine", which was released in 2004. We have been writing for a follow-up CD.

Tripped Into DivineET:What was your inspiration for the song Twilight, perhaps details for the reason it's a love song, meanings for the lyrics, etc.?
Chris: "Twilight" was one of the first songs we wrote for our 2nd CD [back in 2003]. It was one of those songs that basically "wrote itself". We wrote it on an acoustic guitar with a drum machine and the words came pretty easily. The mood and vibe of the music was mysterious and it just made sense to make it a love song. We tried to make the words colorful and memorable. The song was originally titled "Living in Zen", but we re-wrote the chorus and re-named it "Twilight". It has definitely been a fan favorite at our shows. And we are amazed by the similarities to the themes of the Twilight book series. We're just glad the song has touched a lot of people. We look forward to reading the books!
Thanks, Chris!! You rock (to say the least : )!!! And I'm so glad we here at TwilightMOMS could covert your band into being Twilighters! 8) (We really do rule the world, don't we girls? ;) You can visit the Dexter Freebish official Myspace page HERE I hope all of you lovely TMs will love this song as much as I do and that you will get to know Dexter Freebish better if you don't already! :D p.s. I'm slowly but surely getting to know their other songs. I just listened to "Save Me" from Tripped Into Divine and it is a great song for New Moon from either Bella or Edwards perspective! "I've fallen from the tops of mountains to the ground"...."tonight I want to be saved by you"......"when the clock runs out and there's no doubt I feel so far from home"......really Chris? You guys haven't read the books? I'm starting to seriously doubt here! LOL! :)
